Australia Offers Cooperation in Maritime Security

Detiktoday.com – Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Moh. Mahfud MD received the Ad Interim Chargé of the Australian Ambassador (Chargé D’Affaires) Allaster Cox at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security, Jakarta, Friday (07/17/2020).

Both of them discussed cooperation in the maritime sector, specifically related to the Maritime Security Bill.

During the meeting, the Australian said that his country had similar experience with Indonesia in handling maritime issues. One of them is the drafting of a law regulating the coordination of security in Australia’s maritime territory through the 2013 Maritime Powers Act.

In addition, since 1 July 2020, Australia has issued the Defense Strategic Update 2020. The document describes the direction of Australia’s policy in the area of ​​security, including the region.

Australia, through Allaster Cox, offered their experience to Indonesia, which is currently discussing the Maritime Security Law and hopes that cooperation between the two countries can continue to be improved.

During the meeting, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD was accompanied by the Deputy for Foreign Policy Coordination, Ambassador Lutfi Rauf and the Deputy Assistant of Asia, Pacific and African Cooperation Dr. Private Sutiono, while Chargé D’Affaires Australia Allaster Cox was accompanied by South East Asia Regional Commander, Department of Home Affairs Lesley Dalton.
