The Importance of Global Gotong Royong in Facing Various World Problems

Starting from humanitarian, economic, environmental issues, to the Covid-19 pandemic, he believes that it can only be dealt with by working together.
“With global cooperation, we will have great energy to face the Covid-19 pandemic. Prior to Covid-19, we as the world community also faced other challenges such as climate change, depletion of the world’s natural resources, trade or economic wars, and many more, “said Puan while giving her speech at the launch of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Book ( IPU) which was held to commemorate the 130th Anniversary of IPU, Thursday (8/10/2020).
These global challenges show that all countries are really testing the strength of the ties of friendship between countries. Puan said, the problems faced by the world today have an impact across countries and need to be resolved jointly by all people of the world. “We must be aware that no country will be able to win in the world by being alone,” said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) for the 2014-2019 term.
He gave an example, although Indonesia continues to work hard to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic at home, but as long as there are other countries that have difficulty overcoming it, Indonesia will never be completely safe from the Corona virus. Another example of the importance of gotong royong on a global scale is the achievement of the Sustainable Development goals or SDGs which have been set as targets for society and for the earth from the start.
“This is in line with a term in Javanese culture in Indonesia, namely mukti siji, mukti kabeh, which means more or less prosperous one, prosper for all,” said Puan. In the event which was attended by IPU President Gabriela Cuevas, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, as well as BKSAP DPR RI Leaders and Members, Puan revealed that IPU is a pioneering and visionary organization. The reason is because since 1889, the founders of the IPU, William Randal Cremer and Frederic Passy, have realized the importance of dialogue and collaborative work between countries.

Puan emphasized that in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia there is a mandate for Indonesia to participate in implementing world order based on independence, eternal peace and social justice. “Even the first President of Indonesia, Sukarno, since 1945 has stated that” We not only have to establish an independent Indonesian state, but we also have to lead to the kinship of nations “” said the politician from the PDI-Perjuangan faction.
