President Jokowi Should Lead the Economic Recovery Team

Detiktoday.com – The appointment of Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir as Chairman of the Economic Recovery Team (TPE) by President Joko Widodo has been responded to by various groups. Some are optimistic that the appointment of Erick Thohir as Chairman of the TPE will be able to restore the condition of the Indonesian economy as it was before the Corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).

However, some people judge that President Jokowi’s policy will not be effective in making significant improvements in the Indonesian economy. Responding to this, Member of the House of Representatives Commission VII Sartono Hutomo stated, the Government looked very nervous and stuttering in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic disaster.

“From 5 months the Government worked none of the success and prevention strategies of Covid-19 were successful,” said Sartono.

According to Sartono, the TPE that was formed would disrupt the ministry’s performance because the team was filled by ministers in the cabinet. “The cabinet ministers are being paid quite a bit by the state, lest the formation of this task force will actually make many ministries not work as they should,” he said.

The Democratic Party politician assessed that the appointment of Erick Thohir as the head of the economic recovery team would be a burden for him in the midst of efforts to do many things related to the restructuring of Indonesian SOEs. Sartono also hoped that the economic recovery team would be led directly by President Joko Widodo.

“Personally, I hope President Jokowi will directly lead all efforts to restore health and the economy. President Jokowi does not lack great people in his cabinet, just how to be able to formulate the right strategy,” concluded the legislator from East Java VII electoral district.
