Detiktoday.com – Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly hopes that the existence of an Intellectual Property Consultant within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights will make the public more helpful in registering intellectual property. This was conveyed by Yasonna when inaugurating and taking the oath of the 11th generation of intellectual property consultants, Thursday (15/10/2020).
“The existence of an Intellectual Property Consultant is intended to assist and represent the public, especially applicants such as creators, inventors, designers, rights holders, or other parties who obtain rights, to apply for registration in the field of intellectual property,” said Yasonna.
“We know that each type of intellectual property has different characteristics so that an Intellectual Property Consultant is required to have the ability and good legal and practical and technical knowledge of all types of intellectual property,” said the 67-year-old minister.
Yasonna also hopes that Intellectual Property Consultants will play a role in disseminating the importance of intellectual property registration.
“The role of intellectual property related to invention and innovation is very important in the development of modern technology in the future,” said Yasonna.
“I hope that in addition to accepting and submitting applications and assisting creators in registering their intellectual property, Intellectual Property Consultants also have a moral responsibility to socialize the importance of protecting intellectual property and encourage our society to continue to create and produce creations. Likewise to encourage regions to register their communal wealth and geographical indications, “he said.
On this occasion, Yasonna appointed and took the oath of 139 new intellectual property consultants within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The intellectual property consultants who were inaugurated had previously attended and passed the intellectual property consultant training organized by the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia in collaboration with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property.
The inauguration of the Intellectual Property Consultant itself is carried out to carry out the Government Regulation (PP) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 2 of 2005 concerning Intellectual Property Rights Consultants. In the PP, it is explained that an Intellectual Property Consultant is a person who has expertise in the field of Intellectual Property Rights and specifically provides services in the field of submitting and processing applications in the field of Intellectual Property Rights which are managed by DGIP and registered as IP Consultants at DGIP. So far, 964 Intellectual Property Consultants have registered.
At the end of his speech, Yasonna expressed his hope that every Intellectual Property Consultant who has been appointed can maintain integrity at work.
“Research shows the number of intellectual property applicants, be it brands, patents, industrial designs, and others, have a positive correlation with a country’s economic growth. Therefore I hope for your role and of course hope that you maintain integrity according to your oath to be honest, maintain trust and maintain the code of ethics. Do not let the goal justify all means. “Intellectual Property Consultant Court that abides by the principles and complies with the law,” said Yasonna.
