President Jokowi Optimistic Covid-19 Vaccine Will Soon Be Found
Detiktoday.com – President Joko Widodo is optimistic that the development of a vaccine for Covid-19 in the country can run well. The President also emphasized that the government is ready to produce it if a vaccine has been found so that it can be used to vaccinate the entire community for Covid-19.
This was conveyed by the President after reviewing the implementation of the third stage clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine candidate which was held at the Eyckman Building, Faculty of Medicine, Padjajaran University, Bandung City, West Java, on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, guided by the Chair of the Clinical Trial Research Team from Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Padjajaran University. “We are optimistic that with the discovery of this vaccine we can vaccinate all the people,” said the President.
In total, 1,620 volunteers were involved in the third phase of clinical trials. The results of these clinical trials are expected to be the first step for the development and discovery of the Covid-19 vaccine, which is targeted to be achieved by the end of this year.
“We hope that God willing, in January we will be able to produce. If the production is ready, the vaccination will be given to all people in the country,” said the President.
At the same time, the government is also working to develop its own vaccine developed from the Covid-19 virus isolates in Indonesia. The “Red and White” vaccine is expected to be completed in mid-2021.
“So we fully develop our own by the Eijkman Institute, BPPT, LIPI, BPOM, the Minister of Research and Technology, and our universities. But apart from that we are also open to collaborating, for example with Sinovac, the United Arab Emirates in the G20, and with South Korea. , “said the President.
“I think we are opening up (working together) in order as soon as possible we can vaccinate all Indonesian people,” said the President.
To note, before reviewing the implementation of the third phase of clinical trials on the proposed Covid-19 vaccine, President Joko Widodo also reviewed Bio Farma’s readiness and facilities to later produce the Covid-19 vaccine. During the review, the Head of State was guided and received an explanation from the President Director of PT Bio Farma, Honesti Basyir.
Accompanying the President in the review included Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Chairman of the Covid-19 Task Force Doni Monardo, and West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil.
