Towards 100% Access to Drinking Water, the Ministry of PUPR Builds SPAM For Communities in Bandar Lampung

Detiktoday.com – The government continues to improve access to safe drinking water for all Indonesians, including in the Bandar Lampung region, to increase productivity and quality of public health and reduce groundwater abstraction that has a negative impact on the environment such as land subsidence. For this reason, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) together with investor partners is building a Bandar Lampung City Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) with a capacity of 750 liters / second.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said drinking water infrastructure and facilities were basic infrastructure that had a vital influence on health and the environment. In this case the development of Bandar Lampung SPAM is one of the efforts to increase water supply in Bandar Lampung through piping systems. In addition, the construction of SPAM is also expected to maintain optimism and sustainability of infrastructure development amid economic uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bandar Lampung SPAM is a National Strategic Project (PSN) as stipulated in Presidential Regulation (PP) Number 3 of 2016 built with the Government and Business Entity (PPP) scheme based on collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Finance, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Government Bandar Lampung City, PDAM Way Rilau Bandar Lampung City, and PT. Indonesia Infrastructure Guarantee (PT. PII), currently construction progress has reached 98%. Bandar Lampung SPAM construction began in 2018 – 2020 with a consortium of PT. Bangun Cipta Kontraktor (BCK) and PT. Bangun Tjipta Sarana (BTS) with an investment of Rp. 1.1 trillion.

Investment in the development of Bandar Lampung SPAM is utilized for the operation and maintenance of SPAM which includes raw water intake with a capacity of 825 liters / second from the Way Sekampung River, Water Treatment Installation (IPA) with a production capacity of 750 liters / second, construction of a 1,000 mm diameter transmission pipe along 22 km , reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 m³ and construction of a part of the distribution network for pumping systems (main distribution network and carrier distribution network).

The Bandar Lampung SPAM will provide services for 60,000 SR or around 300,000 people in 8 Subdistricts namely, Rajabasa (4,462 SR), Way Halim (8,836 SR), Tanjung Senang (5,990 SR), Sukabumi (9,337 SR), Labuhan Ratu (5,770 SR ), Kedaton (4,406 SR), Sukarame (8,092 SR), and Peace (6,388 SR).
