Discipline and Caring Spirits Are Needed to Speed Up Pandemic Management

Detiktoday.com – The spirit and character of the tough generation of Indonesian Scouts who are disciplined in their actions, are not afraid to face obstacles, always care and are ready to sacrifice for others is very precisely reflected in the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is this spirit and character that is currently needed to accelerate the handling of the pandemic.

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo in his mandate at the 59th Scout Day Commemoration ceremony in 2020 which was held via a video conference from the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 with the theme “The Role of the Scout Movement in Assisting in the Covid-19 Disaster. and State Defense “.

“In the current severe Covid-19 pandemic era, that is what we need. We are disciplined in following health protocols, wearing masks, keeping our distance, and inviting all levels of society to be disciplined in implementing it together,” said the President.

In addition to the character of discipline as mentioned by the President, a character and a spirit of caring for the surroundings and being aware of common interests are also needed in a pandemic situation that causes health and economic impacts that are also experienced by most countries in the world.

The Head of State believes that if this discipline and concern can be continued, efforts to control the spread of Covid-19 will be much easier to implement while reducing other impacts it may cause.

“Therefore, I ask you to make two national movements,” the President told the Indonesian Scout Movement.

The first movement is the national disciplinary movement in which all Indonesian Scout members can participate in inviting all members of the community to be disciplined in following health protocols. Meanwhile, the second is the national care movement which invites people to help, care and share.

“These two movements are not only to help the handling of national problems due to the pandemic, but will also sharpen the souls and character of the leadership of the brothers in deepening the soul of true scouts as stated in Dwidarma, Trisatya, and Dasadarma Pramuka,” said the President.

Furthermore, the Head of State also asked all members of the Indonesian Scout Movement to study hard, master science and technology, care for diversity, defend the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and become the guardians of the true Pancasila. According to him, the challenges in the future faced by the Indonesian Scout Movement, as well as the Indonesian people, will be increasingly heavy and complex.

“Solving health problems requires mastery of science and technology. Solving economic problems also requires science and technology. The character of discipline and care that you have will be more meaningful if supported by science and technology,” said the President.

To note, this year’s Scout Day Commemoration ceremony was held by implementing health protocols through video conferencing. The online commemoration ceremony was attended by the National Quartir board members who followed the ceremony procession from the Pandansari Building, Wiladatika Recreational Park, Cibubur, East Jakarta.
