Solutive and Adaptive Steps in Handling Pandemic

Detiktoday.com – The government is doing many things to continue to protect and ease the burden on the community due to the pandemic and its economic impact. The government has also allocated an initial budget of IDR 203.9 trillion and now IDR 239.53 T to support these efforts, particularly for the social protection cluster.

The funds are realized into various programs, such as PKH (Hope Family Program), BPNT (Non-Cash Food Assistance), Basic Food, BST (Cash Social Assistance), Pre-Employment Cards, Village Fund BLT (Direct Cash Assistance), Productive Banpres for Working Capital, Subsidies Salary, and Electricity Discounts.

However, President Joko Widodo, through a statement, admitted that he was not quite satisfied with the efforts and a number of programs that had been rolled out. Because, according to him, there is still potential for improvement that can be made from these efforts.

“I want the ministers to work better to find programs that are more targeted. We must continue to improve. There is still a lot of hard work that needs to be done. Related to this, the President invited the public not to hesitate in making suggestions for future policy improvements. The Head of State has also ordered the Minister of Home Affairs to open the tap for input on policies.

Seven months of handling a pandemic provides a lot that can be learned and adjusted over time. The Covid-19 virus, the cause of the pandemic, which is currently being studied and developed in the scientific realm, demands adaptive handling and policies to follow these developments accompanied by adjustments to the characteristics of society.

“For example, social restrictions. I think we have to adjust it. For that, I emphasize the importance of Micro-Scale Social Restrictions. We make it more focused, specific, sharp and focused on overcoming the Covid problem but not killing the economy and people’s lives,” the President said.

According to the President, the best solution to deal with this pandemic must be continuously developed and sought. What is considered the best solution that has been implemented in one country is not necessarily applicable in other countries because of the different conditions in each country.

“So we also have to keep adjusting to find the best way that best suits our situation,” he said.

On this occasion, the Head of State expressed his appreciation to doctors, medical personnel, TNI, Polri, and ASN who are still working together to help handle this pandemic as well as remind the public of the importance of being disciplined in implementing health protocols.

“Equally important is the participation of society to change. Adapt to comply with health protocols. Do it with 3M discipline: wear a mask, keep your distance, and wash your hands,” he said.

Finally, the Head of State said a prayer and hoped that the Indonesian people could pass these tests and challenges soon.

“I believe, if we protect each other, help each other, and remind each other, we will be able to get through this difficult time,” he said.
