Commission V Commitment to Complete Revision of Road Law

Detiktoday.com – Infrastructure development in eastern Indonesia continues to be encouraged by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) which aims to facilitate connectivity and accessibility of the community in order to improve the regional and state economy. Road infrastructure and connecting bridges continue to be a priority.

However, often due to a lack of regional budgets, development has stalled. This was revealed by Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian Parliament Ridwan Bae when leading the Commission V DPR RI Recess Work Visit Team to review the construction of roads and bridges in Southeast Sulawesi, Monday (12/10/2020). He stated that he is committed to the other DPR members to immediately complete the revision of Law Number 38 of 2004 concerning roads.

“It means that the Road Law that we are drafting in the National Legislation Program is really urgent. Revision of the Road Law Number 38 of 2017. Please pray for this law to be fast so that in the end the problem of priority road development in the regions can be resolved properly, ”asked the politician from the Golkar Party faction.

According to Ridwan, currently provincial and regency roads in eastern Indonesia are still not fully reached. “National roads are 93 percent good, but provincial roads are still below 78 percent, then district roads are below 30 percent,” he explained.

This Southeast Sulawesi electoral politician explained that so far the tendency has been that in the eastern region the infrastructure has to be built first by the government. This is very inversely proportional to what is happening in big cities in Indonesia. He considered this to make the eastern region always backward in terms of development.

“The government must first develop the region. It is hoped that after the government builds, entrepreneurs will come here. In fact, if we know that these eastern regions have enormous natural potential. However, because it is not touched, it becomes very difficult, of course. So the central main push that must be done is to build infrastructure, “said Ridwan.
