Puan Maharani Appoints the Female Parliamentary Caucus Management
Detiktoday.com – Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Dr. (H.C.) Puan Maharani installed and took the oath of the Indonesian Parliamentary Caucus Management (KPP – RI) Period 2020-2024. The oath taking process took place virtually and was attended physically by KPP – RI members at the RI Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (07/23/2020).
In her remarks, Puan said the role of women in national politics continued to increase. After Megawati Soekarnoputri became the first female President of the Republic of Indonesia, Puan Maharani was elected as the first woman to become the chair of the Indonesian Parliament. In parliament, women who became members of the DPR continued to increase from 17 percent in the 2014-2019 period to 21 percent in the 2019-2024 period, including the increasing number of female members serving in the leadership of the board.
As Chairperson of the KPP-RI Board of Trustees, the PDI-P politician said that the task of the Indonesian Parliamentary Women’s Caucus (KPP-RI) was to improve the quality of women politicians, so that the way for women to occupy key positions was increasingly wide open.
“This is about the opening of a gate for Indonesian women, to occupy key positions in politics. And I believe the Caucus of Women Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia plays an important role in making this journey even faster in the future, “said Puan. According to her, despite the many advances that have been achieved, Indonesian women still face various obstacles that can come from social, cultural, economic and political life.
Under the auspices of the Presidium Chairperson Diah Pitaloka, Puan encouraged the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus to increase its role in strategic issues relating to women’s involvement in the national development process. “There is hope placed by Indonesian women on the shoulders of the Parliamentary Caucus of the Republic of Indonesia that must be realized to its full potential to carry out constitutional duties as a member of the Indonesian Parliament through its legislative, supervisory and budgetary functions,” he said.
One thing that must be done immediately by the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, according to Puan, is strengthening national regulations to ensure the role of women and building cooperation between various groups and countries to create a friendly environment for the role of women.
“We must remind and convince many people that including women in the development process is not just an affirmative policy but a form of awareness of respect for human dignity and dignity,” said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture 2014-2019.
