Menkumham Praises West Java’s Contribution to Protection of Communal Intellectual Property

Detiktoday.com – Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly praised West Java’s contribution in terms of protecting communal intellectual property. This was conveyed by Yasonna when inaugurating the tourism village of Alam Santosa, Ecotourism and Culture based on Nusantara Culture in Cikadut Village, Cimenyan, Bandung Regency, Saturday (17/10/2020).

“West Java as one of the important economic pillars contributes greatly in the field of intellectual property as the province with the largest brand ownership and geographical indication in Indonesia,” he said.

“In addition, West Java is also an exemplary province in developing regional regulations in the field of intellectual property, including communal intellectual property in the form of dances, traditional clothing and other cultures. These are all legacies that we must preserve because the progress of the times does not need to erode local wisdom, “said Menkumham Yasonna Laoly again.

Minister Yasonna is also optimistic that the Alam Santosa tourism village will further increase West Java’s contribution to the preservation and protection of communal intellectual property.

“The registration of intellectual property, including up to Ubi Cilembu which is categorized under Geographical Indications, is a protection of intellectual property itself. West Java Province has done that with Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2012 concerning Intellectual Property Protection which has been revised to become Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2018, “he said optimistically.

“With the Alam Santosa tourism village as a learning center based on Indonesian culture to develop local policy insights as a contribution to the development of national cultural values, Kemenkumham is optimistic about the potential and contribution of West Java in the field of intellectual property in the future,” said the minister who was born on May 27, 1953.

Yasonna’s presence at the inauguration of the Alam Santosa tourism village was a continuation of a work visit in West Java. The minister who was born in Sorkam, Tapanuli Tengah, previously participated in monitoring the implementation of the CPNS test at the Bandung Special Development Institute for Children (LPKA) and observing the Assimilation Facilities at the Women’s Penitentiary Institution (LPP) in Bandung.

The inauguration of the tourist village was also attended by members of Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament from the PDI-P faction who is also the General Chair of the Indonesian Nias Community Association (HIMNI), Marinus Gea. The event was also enlivened with various Sundanese cultural performances, such as Sundanese traditional ceremonies and Rampak Kendang, as well as the Ya’ahouwu Dance and the Baluse Dance from Nias. The thickness of Sundanese and Nias culture is none other than because the tourist village of Alam Santosa was established to commemorate the friendship of the two cultures.

“Today we celebrate the friendship between Sundanese and Nias Islands, two cultures that are thousands of kilometers apart. However, because we live in one unit, the distance becomes as if it is not real. Hopefully the friendship that has been built so far will become a strong basis for mutual progress, “said Yasonna.

“I hope that in the future, Alam Sentosa ecotourism and culture will continue to build friendship with the cultures of all ethnic groups in Indonesia and become a center of excellence in learning togetherness in culture,” he said.

Tourism Villages Also Reinforce the Value of Pluralism

The professor of criminology at the Police Science College (PTIK) hopes that the Alam Santosa tourism village will not only become a tourist destination and cultural learning, but also reinforces the value of pluralism.

“Our diversity as a nation is a necessity because we are a very pluralistic society. Therefore, instead of accentuating each other’s differences, it is far better for us to see this as a wealth that is not owned by all nations. Let’s use differences as strengths, not as dividers, ”said Yasonna.

Yasonna did not forget to appreciate the initiative of Eka Santosa, the founder of the Alam Santosa tourism village, which collaborated with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in creating a drug-free area in Cikadut Village.

“One of the nation’s problems today is the rampant drug trafficking, mostly targeting the younger generation. This program will further narrow the space for drug trafficking and the enthusiasm to build a drug-free village will spread to other villages, “said Yasonna.

“Therefore, I give high appreciation for the collaboration with BNN to support drug-free villages. This is the 56th village to clean drugs in West Java, “he said.

Meanwhile, Eka Santosa said that the tourist village he founded was a form of good relations between the people of West Java and Nias people in the province.

“In the past, I was officially given the title of adat by the government and the people of Nias as Balugu (Maha Raja, ed.). I have absorbed this title properly and have not wasted it. Therefore, this tourist village is also my breath in service and a form of good relations with the Nias people in West Java, which number no less than 45 thousand people, ”said the former member of the Indonesian Parliament.
