Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs: It is the Government’s Duty to Understand the Job Creation Law

Detiktoday.com – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Moh. Mahfud MD said that if the demonstration related to the Omnibus Law, the Job Creation Law was still ongoing and would happen for some time. Therefore, the task of the government is to provide an understanding of the Job Creation Law.

“Demonstrations related to the Job Creation Law are still ongoing and according to intelligence, they will continue for the next few days, even though the scale is getting smaller and more fragmented. Our job is to maintain security and public order by providing an understanding of the background of the Job Creation Law, about the actual materials compared to hoaxes and what are the benefits obtained from this Job Creation Law, “said Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Mahfud MD in Coordination Meeting on Explanation and Preparation for the Implementation of the Job Creation Law, at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday (14/10/2020).

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs said, this Job Creation Law was motivated by the lengthy licensing process and too many bureaucratic desks to go through if people wanted a business license. So then the President took the initiative on how to make the licensing run faster, so if people want business permits including domestic ones, it will be easier because there are not too many tables and are not corrupted.

Then, said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, there is also the fact that the workforce increases every year. Based on the data received, there are 2.9 million workers who have been laid off, so that the number is hundreds of thousands or even millions of people. According to him, it must be accommodated and provide employment opportunities.

“That’s what caused the President since the previous period, so this is not just a campaign to simplify licensing. That is what is called the omnibus law, a law that combines other laws with the same problem, “said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also explained that the discussion on the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law had been discussed openly. That is why there are many different manuscripts in circulation, because once the first manuscript was available then there was input, it would change again.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs himself said that he had invited trade unions, both those who supported or not, to discuss this law. It said there were 63 meetings and 13 inputs submitted by the union.

“So it’s not not accommodated but not 100% the same, we take the middle way,” he said.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court also emphasized that many hoaxes were circulating which led to movements in a number of regions. For example, regarding layoffs that do not receive severance pay. The Coordinating Minister said that severance pay was still given but the amount had decreased from 32 times to 25 times.

“Now we are given certainty that people cannot be laid off and not given severance pay without any juridical certainty. And now there is a job loss guarantee guaranteed by the government that didn’t exist before, “said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

Regarding the demonstration against the Job Creation Law, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs said that as long as he conveyed his aspirations, it was okay because there were rules and it was protected by law. But there are some anarchists such as burning, carrying Molotov cocktails, and carrying machetes. According to him, usually these anarchists show up late in the evening once the permit expires.

“The government is responsible, please allow aspirational demonstrations to show their aspirations but the anarchists will be handled. Don’t let us mess up and get out of control. If we leave it for 1 hour in the name of democracy, this country will run out, “said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

“Therefore, Forkompinda begs to pay attention to the anarchists. Now many have been arrested and that is what will be proven in court, “continued the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security.

The meeting was attended by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Manpower. Then virtually Menkumham, Minister of Finance, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Deputy Attorney General, Deputy Inspectorate of Police, First Secretary of BIN, Governors, Regents / Mayors and Forkompinda throughout Indonesia.
