Menpora RI: Wushu Championship 2020, Evidence of PB WI’s Creativity for Consistency in Developing Athletes in the Middle of a Pandemic

Detiktoday.com – The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Zainudin Amali officially opened the 2020 Wushu Championship virtually on Saturday (10/10) night. On this occasion, the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports praised the innovation and creativity of the Indonesian Wushu Grand Board (PB WI) who held a virtual wushu championship in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This internal competition provides the Chairman of PB WI Cup, Airlangga Hartarto for the overall champion. The Virtual Wushu Championship which was held on October 10-17 was attended by 632 athletes, consisting of 319 women and 313 women from 50 gyms in Indonesia. This championship also has a mission to record all junior athletes and encourage the gym to be more active in terms of coaching. As well as capturing the best wushu athletes who will be prepared for international level championships.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Chairman of PB Wushu Indonesia, amidst his busy schedule, he still pays attention to the development and development of Indonesian Wushu. This was proven tonight to start a virtual wushu champhionship. The government appreciates Indonesian wushu families, because in the midst of a pandemic they are able to show creativity in holding virtual competitions, “said the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports.
According to the Indonesian Menpora, it is not easy to hold championships internally in sports in the midst of a pandemic. As a result of the impact of the Corona virus, many sports activities have been postponed, including training camps. Athletes are forced to do exercises independently to maintain fitness. The Indonesian Menpora also understands that athletes must be bored because they continue to train without a championship. For this reason, the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports again appreciates the sport which has held championships internally in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I appreciate this tournament. The gym seeks to do exercises for its athletes. Of course the Ministry of Youth and Sports supports the creativity of sports that carry out innovation and creativity. We also appreciate governance improvements made by wushu administrators. This is also in line with us at the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, “explained the Indonesian Menpora.
Furthermore, the Indonesian Menpora hopes that this year’s virtual wushu championship can be held smoothly and successfully. Even though it is done virtually, it is hoped that the meaning and enthusiasm to compete will not diminish. Simultaneously with the commemoration of the 92nd Youth Pledge Day, the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports advised wushu athletes to continue to show their enthusiasm to compete and continue to make achievements.
“Compete with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. For coaches, guide these athletes well. To the jury on duty, score the best and fairest possible. Hopefully this championship will run successfully and smoothly, “explained the Indonesian Menpora.
Meanwhile, General Chairman of the Indonesian Wushu Executive (PB WI), Airlangga Hartarto expressed his gratitude for holding this wushu championship. Wushu, he said, has always been consistent in coaching athletes. Despite the pandemic atmosphere, athlete training continues. Exercises are also being carried out.
“I appreciate this championship. Also for gym in the province. I hope that through this championship, athletes in the future can be born and become the pride of Indonesia. I also hope that in the future wushu athletes will continue to perform well and sing the Indonesia Raya song in upcoming international events. I wish you a happy match, good luck. To the Indonesian Menpora, thank you for the support given, and hopefully we can continue to synergize, “concluded, General Chairman of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PB WI) Airlangga Hartarto.
